As a podiatry business owner, it’s essential to understand that you wear three different hats, and it’s just as important to know when to wear each one because it is impossible to wear all three hats simultaneously.
What Are the Three Hats?
1. Podiatrist – when the patient is directly in front of you, that should be your focus, and their treatment should be the only thing on your mind.
2. Manager – If you employ people, you must set time aside to focus on their needs because if you don’t, they will feel neglected. You cannot think about your patients when thinking about your team.
3. Entrepreneur – This is the most complex hat to wear because, as an entrepreneur, you sometimes have to make decisions based on what is best for the business, and you must take your patients and team out of the equation.
You can’t please everyone, and tough decisions need to be made because, in reality, you can only see/treat so many patients per day, so you need to decide who you want to see in that eight-hour timeframe.
Will your day be filled with patients with a discount mindset or someone else?
Business owners get frustrated when they try to please everyone, so the sooner you understand the three hat principle, the sooner you will make the best decisions for your business.
