The Lone Wolf Is Overrated
Many podiatrists start their clinics because they’re excellent clinicians. They know how to diagnose problems, treat patients and build relationships.
Running a business is different.
Suddenly you’re expected to become an accountant, marketer, HR manager, leader, negotiator, systems expert and strategist, often all before lunch.
Trying to master every area alone is exhausting. More importantly, it’s slow.
The lone wolf might survive, but the business owner who builds a trusted pack usually grows much faster.
You Can’t Read the Label from Inside the Jar
One of my favourite business truths is that you can’t read the label from inside the jar. When you’re buried in the daily routine, it’s incredibly difficult to see the obvious.
- You stop questioning inefficient systems because they’ve become normal.
- You accept low-profit services because “that’s just how we’ve always done it.”
- You tolerate team issues because they’ve developed gradually over time.
Someone looking from the outside often spots opportunities in minutes that you’ve been overlooking for years.
That’s not because they’re smarter. It’s because they’re standing somewhere different; they’re on the outside of the jar.
Every Elite Performer Has a Coach
- Professional athletes have coaches.
- Olympic swimmers have coaches.
- World champion golfers have coaches.
- Successful CEOs have mentors.
Even experienced business coaches have coaches. Not because they lack knowledge, but because they value perspective, accountability and honest feedback.
I have a mindset coach that I catch up with every second week, like clockwork, unless one of us is travelling.
Yet many business owners convince themselves they should somehow figure everything out alone.
That’s a heavy burden to carry.
Asking Questions Saves Years
One good question can save months of frustration.
Sometimes it’s as simple as asking:
- “What am I not seeing that is obvious to you?”
- “Is there a better way to do this?”
- “If this were your business, what would you change first?”
The answers aren’t always complicated. Sometimes one conversation unlocks a decision you’ve been delaying for two years.
Progress often comes from asking better questions rather than working longer hours. My goal is to help my clients work fewer hours.
Pride Is an Expensive Business Strategy
I’ve seen clinic owners spend thousands on advertising while ignoring the operational problems that are driving patients out the back door.
I’ve seen owners work six days a week because they were too proud to admit they needed leadership advice.
I’ve seen businesses plateau simply because nobody challenged their thinking, and an employee will never challenge you.
Pride has a way of disguising itself as independence, but in reality, it quietly limits growth.
The Best Investment Isn’t Always Another Course
Education is valuable, as are books and podcasts. But eventually there comes a point where information isn’t the problem.
Implementation is.
Sometimes you don’t need another strategy. You need someone to help you apply the strategies you already know.
That’s where the real transformation happens.
Be A Smart Owner
No successful business is built entirely alone. I know mine wasn’t.
Behind almost every thriving clinic is a network of people who have contributed ideas, challenged assumptions, offered encouragement and provided honest advice when it was needed most.
The smartest business owners aren’t afraid to ask for help. They’re afraid of staying stuck.
Ready for a Different Perspective?
If you’ve been working hard but feel like your business has hit a plateau, perhaps you don’t need another marketing tactic or another online course. You might simply need an experienced set of eyes looking at your business from the outside.
That’s exactly what I do.

Or, if you just want to make more money in podiatry, we can talk about that as well.
