Preparation is the KEY (to better communication)

I was recently a guest on the Art of Healthcare, a New Zealand podcast that focuses on communication and the human skills of practitioners versus clinical skills.

It was a great conversation, and one of the questions asked by the host was how I developed and improved my communication skills with my patients, and my answer was PREPARATION. 

I explained that it's all about preparing for tomorrow's patients today and creating a game plan for how you see the day unfolding, and identifying any possible hiccups or bottlenecks that could slow down your day. 

Preparing ahead of time removes stress, and when you're not under pressure or rushed, your ability to communicate (and listen) with your patients dramatically improves.
