The Danger of Jumping to Conclusions

In podiatry and everyday life, jumping to conclusions can be more than a simple mistake—it can be dangerous. In this week’s video, I share two real-life stories that highlight why asking better questions and gathering all the facts is critical before making decisions.

A Corporate Golf Day Gone Wrong

I kick things off with a light-hearted golf story. Many years ago, at a corporate golf day, I accidentally led my team to believe I was an above-average player simply by saying I usually “shoot around 90”—forgetting to mention that was for nine holes, not eighteen. Their assumption turned into disappointment, and it was all due to a lack of follow-up questions.

This humorous example shows how quickly misunderstandings can happen when we jump to conclusions.

The Life-Saving Importance of Digging Deeper

The stakes were far higher with a patient I once saw in my podiatry clinic. He came in with persistent heel pain that had stumped other professionals. Previous practitioners had tried orthotics and footwear changes, but no one had asked the deeper questions or ordered imaging. I did, and it revealed a four-centimetre tumour in his heel.

This was a stark reminder of how vital it is not to take the obvious route or assume the most common diagnosis.

The Lesson for Healthcare (and Beyond)

Whether you’re a podiatrist, a business owner, or anyone dealing with clients or customers, the message is clear: ask more questions. Don’t accept the first answer at face value. Dig deeper. When you do, you reduce errors and avoid frustration, and in some cases, you might save a life.

Do You Want A Little Business Guidance?

A podiatrist I spoke with in early 2024 earned an additional $40,000 by following my advice from a 30-minute free Zoom call. They were so happy that they surprised me with a beautiful bottle of bourbon; this is not something you have to do, but I will never say no.

Think about it: you have everything to gain and nothing to lose, and it's not a TRAP. I'm not out to get you, I'm here to help you.

Please follow the link below to my calendar and schedule a free 30-minute Zoom call.

I guarantee that after we talk, you will have far more clarity on what is best for you, your business and your career.
