It takes years to build a building, but it only takes seconds to bring it down when explosives are placed at the right points. This is what some destroyers are doing to the podiatry profession.
In this week's video, I discuss the concept of Builders and destroyers in podiatry. The good news is that everyone knows who they are.
I've had podiatry destroyers on Facebook attack the Podiatry Legends Podcast for no apparent reason other than to destroy it, but fortunately, the positive podiatrists have far outweighed the negative. Yippie Ki-Yay!!!

Builders & Destroyers
[00:00:00] Hi, I'm Tyson Franklin and welcome to this week's video. Before I get too far into today's topic, which is about Builders and Destroyers, don't forget to check out the Podiatry Legends Podcast episodes released most weeks every now and then I do miss one if I'm really busy, but the goal is to get one out every single week and not all guests are podiatrists.
[00:00:22] Usually once a month, I'll have someone who I think is a legend who's not a podiatrist. So go and check them out as well.
[00:00:27] Today's topic builders and destroyers. What do I mean by this? I'll give you an example. This is how I heard it on another podcast. And they were talking about when a building is built, by the time they come up with the idea of the building, they have plans done, architects, all that type of thing.
[00:00:47] Foundations put in and the building is finally opened. Someone cuts a ribbon, opens that building. It could take years. From the idea to the building being completed. However, something that took years to build [00:01:00] can be brought down by putting, you know, demolition devices, dynamite in exactly the right spot.
[00:01:07] And within seconds I can bring a building down. So something that took years to build can be brought down in the matter of seconds. And I think this applies to. I think it applies to the podiatry profession in many different areas. And I think we need to be aware that in our profession, we have builders and we also have destroyers.
[00:01:36] And I see it a lot in Facebook social media pages where somebody may post a question on something and you get some really positive responses and you'll see the positive responses are from the same people. But then you'll see all the negative responses come through.
[00:01:51] Not a lot of them, but there'll be a couple of them. And usually it's always from the same people. And somebody might ask a real simple question and the next thing they'll be [00:02:00] grabbing some. , a research article that they found, and they'll start posting that with links and tell you this is why you are wrong, and why they are right, and they are awesome.
[00:02:10] Those people can sometimes be destroyers. They're not there trying to build you up. They're not necessarily trying to help you. They're trying to lift themselves up by tearing you down. Be aware that in our profession, we have builders who are doing things who are trying to build the profession up. And at the same time, we do have people that are deliberately poking little demolition devices in different places, trying to actually tear other people down.
[00:02:37] And like I say, everyone knows who they are. And I think it's time that we start calling him out. A couple of years ago, perfect example would be, I think it was about three and a half years after starting the Podiatry Legends Podcast, maybe 200 episodes around, well, maybe 250. And all of a sudden, It's a small little group of podiatrists [00:03:00] that started saying my podcast sucked.
[00:03:02] They said it was shit. They wouldn't come on there. There's no way. It's a joke. There's no way they would come on my podcast. Yet at the same time, I'm having new and recent graduates tell me the podcast is what's kept them in the profession. I've had people who have told me by coming on the podcast, it opened up speaking opportunities and so many other doors.
[00:03:21] It was great for the business. It's helped them attract team members. I've had other people who are outside of the profession who have come in on the podcast and they have shared their thoughts and ideas and even they've commented that they've had so many positive comments from other podiatrists.
[00:03:35] Yet, after all the time and effort I put into building up the podcast, a small group of podiatrists will do whatever they can to try and tear it down. Why? Why do people do that? It doesn't make any sense. I don't even know. I'm just using my podcast as a classic example of what people do, but I think you need to be very careful in different Facebook groups.
[00:03:58] If they feel [00:04:00] toxic, if there's a small number of people in there who are always just tearing other people down who are destroyers, who are not trying to build you up. Consider leaving those groups because there's a lot of other positive Facebook groups out there. I have one, the Podiatry Business Owners Club, where you keep it fairly positive and you'll find right now a lot of the people that are the destroyers and some of those other groups are not in the Podiatry Business Owners Club.
[00:04:26] Some of them may have been there originally, but But after a couple of comments, I noticed them and I got rid of them, or they left themselves because there was no negative comments in there. It is a very, very safe group. The reason I bring this up is I think Like I said, we know there's builders and we know there's destroyers.
[00:04:44] We know who the destroyers are. I'm not saying you should be getting in arguments with these people. It's just be aware that they're there. But I think in all social media, if you cannot say something positive to a comment that somebody has made, then [00:05:00] don't comment or send them a private message with your concerns.
[00:05:05] Or even if you strongly disagree, send them up a private message, especially if what you're going to say is going to tear them down. Now, you might have an opposing view. I don't have a problem with people having opposing views. That is, that is very healthy to have a healthy discussion, but not when you know, the tone of what is being posted is trying to show how intelligent they are to try and prove that the other person isn't quite as smart. That's a destroyer. There is a huge difference. Now, I hope I'm not raving on too much. And I know a couple of destroyers will probably listen to this video and give it a thumbs down, which I'm fine with that.
[00:05:43] People will know who you are. And yeah, that's all I really wanted to say about this. I think it's a really, really good topic. It's something that we should talk about more I think it's one of those things everyone needs to band together and try and lift each other up.
[00:05:58] I think every person, when you're in [00:06:00] contact with somebody, you should feel better for the experience of being in contact with them. I hope when people watch these videos that they come away from the video feeling better for watching the video than have not watched it. When I do my newsletters each week, I hope people feel better when they get that newsletter and it pops into their inbox, then not receiving it.
[00:06:19] So stay positive, hang around positive people. Keep as many positive people in your life as possible. Get rid of the negative ones, remove the destroyers from your life. And I'll tell you, you will be a much happier podiatrist. I hope you get something from that. I'll talk to you again next week. Bye.
