They Don't Build Statues for Generalists

On a recent trip to Airlie Beach with my wife, we walked past a Google sign out the front of the local Rum Bar that said, best mojito in the world, so of course, we had to try it because we both liked mojitos.

Afterwards, it got me thinking about how you could use this idea in your own business and why it is important to be known for something because they don't build statues for generalists.

Hi, I'm Tyson Franklin and welcome to this week's video. Last week, I was in Airlie Beach with my wife; I had a fantastic week. And if you've never been to Airlie Beach, it's a beautiful place. While we were there. But walking down the main street, there's a restaurant there called Fish D'Vine and within that restaurant, they have a Rum Bar. There was an A-frame out the front of the restaurant. And it was a, it was a Google sign that was on the A-frame, and it actually said the best mojito in the world. And I had the list of the top 10 mojitos.

And number one was the Rum Bar at Airlie Beach Australia. So of course, I don't mind to mojito and myself and neither does my wife. But I got on my phone. I said, I'm going to check this out. So I typed in best Mojito in the world and it was all listed there. And, yes, The Rum Bar at Airlie Beach was number one. So, of course we went back there the next afternoon.

We both had one, both enjoyed it. It was a fantastic Mojito. Two points about that they don't want to share. The first one is what is Google actually saying about you? And if you're ranked high in particular areas, or there's a , rating a review about your particular business. Then I think you can use that in your marketing, just like they did with the A-frame.

So somehow they have ended up best mojito in the world and they are using that and I'll guarantee there's a lot of people that walk past, see that sign and go, I have to try it. The second point that I take away from that. Is, and I've mentioned this before, , you can be a generalist. You can do all aspects of Podiatry, but I think it's really important that you are known for something. So you might spend 90% of your day doing general Podiatry, but 10% of it, you might sort of niche down or specialise in a particular area.

And that's what you become known for. And the reason I say that is I remember. Ah, someone did a quote once. And they said they've never seen a statue built for a generalist. No one puts a statue up and you walk past it and go, I want to get my photo in front of that statue, that is the world's greatest generalist.

Normally statues are built for people that have done some unique in a particular area, or they've stood out in a particular area. And I think this is really important with your Podiatry business. There's got to be something within your business or within Podiatry that you enjoy above everything else. And maybe you need to put a little bit more time and attention into that.

And if you do, you may be known for that thing, whatever that thing is. Now, if you say, oh, but I love all aspects of Podiatry. Well, that's great. There's nothing wrong with loving all aspects of Podiatry. But if there's something that you enjoy a little bit more than everything else, that if you had a few more of those patients coming in , every day or every week, then may be, that can elevate you above everybody else in your area.

And then maybe even Google will start ranking you a little bit higher in that particular area. And you may be able to use it in your marketing, just like they did at the Rum Bar at Airlie beach. So that's the point of this particular video? Find something that you like in Podiatry a little bit more than everything else put a little bit more time and attention that you will find that when somebody is searching for that particular thing, in Podiatry, you'll be ranked higher and then you never know, if you type in a particular phrase and you're up there amongst everybody else, you may be able to use that in your marketing, just like the Rum Bar did.
