When was the last time you saw an ad that just blew you away? It may have been in a traditional magazine, a video ad on YouTube or something else you noticed online. What was it that grabbed your attention and made you stand up and take notice?
It may have been the layout, the copy, the font, a particular photograph, a clever headline, a particular colour, or maybe a unique combination of all of the above.
What made it noticeable to you will probably make it noticeable to others as well.
Why you need a Future Ideas Folder
When you see something that grabs your attention, you need a place to store this information when it presents itself. If you rely on your memory to retrieve this information later when you need it, believe me, your memory will let you down.
And don’t limit this folder to just visual and video ads.
If you see a brochure, flyer, business card, stylish website, landing page, billboard or sign that captures your attention while driving around town, take a photo and add it to your folder.
It doesn’t need to be a great photo either; the goal is to just capture what caught your attention.
Braintoss
If you've never used the App Braintoss, you should check it out. It is an excellent App for quickly capturing inspirational ideas and thoughts, which can later be added to your Future Ideas Folder.
Stimulate Your Reticular Activating System (RAS)
Your Future Ideas Fodler should be on your desktop and seen daily. Visually observing this folder will heighten your RAS.
The RAS is the part of the brain that makes you more aware of your surroundings, and if your Future Ideas Folder constantly stimulates your RAS, you can’t help but notice more ideas.
Next Conference
So the next time you attend a conference with a tradeshow, you're not just going to notice the products or services on offer; you’re going to notice a whole lot more about the display itself.
You’ll notice the layout, positioning of products, lighting, signage, usage of colour, etc, and you won’t be able to stop yourself from taking a photo and adding it to your folder for future use.
When your RAS is in full gear, you’ll see far more than when it’s not switched on, so you should set up this folder as soon as possible.
The Future Ideas Folder is also an excellent tool for team meetings, especially if you want to stimulate new marketing ideas.
Future Ideas Folder, Marketing Folder and Brain Book
Before I finish, I’d like to point out that your Future Ideas folder is different from your Marketing Folder and Brain Book.
Briefly, the Future Ideas Folder is where you store marketing information and ideas developed by other people, your Marketing Folder is where you store all your advertising and marketing as it occurs, and the Brain Book is where you keep a record of your original thoughts, ideas, and concepts as they come to mind.
