The building industry in Australia is currently booming, and if you want to get a house built right now, it will cost you considerably more than it would have 12-months ago.
Taking this into account, if you met a builder who was prepared to build your house and only charge you half or a third of the standard hourly rate during boom times, what would your initial thought be?
Coaching Client
I ran this scenario past a coaching client, and their response was what I expected. They thought the builder must be cutting a few corners, using cheaper materials and possibly not building to the same standards to charge so much less.
They may even be a little dodgy and potentially not finish the job.
What Do You Charge?
I was using the building industry as an example, and if this is how we think towards a cheap builder, what makes you think potential patients do not have the same perception of a cheap podiatrist?
It doesn't mean a cheap, cost-cutting podiatrist is not good at what they do, BUT it could be perceived that way.
Patient Example
Over my career, I have done a lot of assessments and fitted a lot of orthotics with patients who were seeing a different podiatrist for their general foot care.
Usually, I didn't find this out until afterwards when I recommended them to return for general treatment, and they would say, "no, that's okay, my other podiatrist looks after that".
I would then ask why they didn't get their orthotics made by them, and they would tell me they knew it would be a more expensive service and didn't think their podiatrist had the qualifications.
Final Point
Here's an important point, every time this happened, the podiatrist in question was also one of the CHEAPEST podiatrists in town.
So in closing, someone has got to be the most expensive, so why not make it YOU.
You don't want to be the dodgy builder.
